The oversized Mylar balloons were inflated, then packed closely together inside Punjabi Market. The grouping created a dense canopy of balloons, which heighted the surrounding flat area. The structure was built to AODA standards. We made sure that the balloons were to hang from above, not from below, as it would interfere with path of travels. Guests could wander through, or take a rest on the vinyl graphic covered pavement and gaze up at the silver artificial sky.
The time of day changed the effect and mood of the pavilion. Varying sunlight transformed the canopy from glowing and reflective to a form with its own light source. By choosing reflective silver, the balloons amplify the surrounding environment, contorting and twisting their reflection into a myriad of colours with the blue sky, a changing kaleidoscope above the visitors’ heads.
